Four Spartans Prepare for ITA Midwest Regional Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Four members of the Michigan State women's tennis team will represent MSU at the 2001 ITA Midwest Regional Championships Thursday through Sunday (Oct. 25-28) in Madison, Wis.
Sophomore Caroline Lay (Brisbane, Australia) and freshman Dora Vastag (Okemos, Mich.) will both compete in the singles main draw for the Spartans. Also, freshmen Mandy Caldemeyer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Kate Thomas (Long Beach, Calif.) will play in the singles qualifying draw.
All four players will also take part in the main doubles draw, as Lay will team with Vastag and Caldemeyer will pair with Thomas.
Vastag won the Maize flight championship at the Wolverine Fall Class in Ann Arbor, Oct. 7, while Lay finished runner-up in the Blue flight. Caldemeyer won the B flight singles title at The Spartan Cup Sept. 30, and teamed with Thomas to win the doubles B flight at the same event.
