Men's Golf Finishes 11th In Duke Golf Classic

DURHAM, N.C. - The Michigan State men's golf team finished 11th out of 17 teams in the Duke Golf Classic Tuesday (Oct. 15). The Spartans posted a three-round team score of 913 (302-306-305). Virginia Tech prevailed as tournament champions as the Hokies shot a team score of 886 (293-296-297).
Georgia Southern's Justin Kolumber was the individual champion as he defeated Augusta State's Oliver Wilson in a playoff that lasted two holes.
Michigan State was led by juniors John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) and Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.), who each placed in the top-ten. Koskinen finished in ninth place with a final score of 221 (75-74-72). Jorgensen, who led the tournament field through two rounds, finished tied for 10th as he shot 222 (69-74-79).
Sophomore J.J. Beckstrom (North Muskegon, Mich.) finished the tournament with a score of 235 (77-81-77) while freshman Mark Bixler (Toledo, Ohio) carded a score of 236 (82-77-77) in his first collegiate action.
Senior Nathan Clark (Mason, Mich.) recorded a score of 245 (81-81-83).
The Duke Golf Classic was Michigan State's last tournament of the fall season. The Spartans return to tournament action in the spring when they travel to Ocala, Fla., to compete in the Big Red Classic (March 9-10).
