Women's Soccer Defeated By Illinois, 2-1

East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team was defeated, 2-1, by Illinois on Sunday afternoon in Champaign, Ill. MSU is now 7-1-1 overall (2-1-0 Big Ten), while the Fighting Illini increase their record to 6-3-0 overall (2-1-0 Big Ten). The loss marked the Spartans' first defeat of the season.
Illinois started the game off quickly, recording 18 shots and scoring two goals (at the 22:44 and the 44:22 marks) in the first half. The Fighting Illini out shot the Spartans, 26-5, on the game.
Michigan State freshman Tiffany Laskowski (Troy) scored MSU's only goal during the second period at 48:12.
Michigan State senior goalkeeper Sara Kloosterman (Farmington) made 12 saves during the game. Kloosterman has made 52 saves and given up only 7 goals this season.
The Spartans look to get back on track with two road games this week. MSU will travel to Purdue on Friday, September 29 (4 p.m.) and Indiana on Sunday, October 1 (1:30 p.m.).
