Spartan Swimmers, Diver Compete At U.S. Olympic Trials

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Three Michigan State swimmers and one Spartan diver have closed a week of competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Hundreds of swimmers are taking part in trials competition in Indianapolis while more than 200 divers attended the trials in Mission Viejo, Calif.
On the men's side, senior John Munley (Kalamazoo, Mich.) finished 17th in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:51.91 while junior Aaron Mahaney (Easton, Pa.) placed 46th in the 200 butterfly at 2:04.10. Sophomore Katie Duncombe (Erie, Pa.) was 38th in the women's 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:05.36. Sophomore diver Summer Mitchell (Troy, Mich.) finished 14th in the one-meter diving quarterfinals with a score of 212.22. Mitchell was one place shy of advancing to the semifinals.
The U.S. Olympic swimming trials close Wednesday. The diving trials ended Sunday.
