Women's Golf Takes Second in Lady Buckeye Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's golf team finished in second place at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, six shots behind Ohio State. The Spartans, which were in first place after the first two rounds by one stroke, shot 314-310-311=935 at the par-72, 6,126-yard OSU Scarlet Golf Course. Ohio State, which won the tournament last year, fired a team score of 311-315-303=929.
Kasey Gant's (Jr., Ft. Wayne, Ind.) outstanding play earned her medallist honors after shooting 75-76-76=227. Gant was in first place after the first two rounds as well. It was Gant's first individual championship of the year after having won two last season.
Finishing in second place, just one shot behind Gant, was Ohio State's Mollie Fankhauser, who fired a 78-74-76=228.
Emily Bastel (So., Upper Sandusky, Ohio) finished in fifth place, just three shots back of Gant, after firing a 77-79-74=230. Also in the top 15 was Stacy Snider (So., Grand Rapids, Mich.) who shot a 77-79-81=237 which was good for a tie for 14th place.
Jessica Till (Fr., Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished in a tie for 28th place after firing a 85-76-81=242. Erin Roe (Fr., Martinsville, Ind.) shot an 88 in the first round but rebounded with a pair of 80's in the final two rounds for a total score of 248.
The Spartans will next be in action at the Big Ten Tournament in Madison, Wis. this weekend, April 28-30.
