Women Golfers Take Second At Big Ten Championship

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's golf team took second-place at the Big Ten Championship after shooting 305-290-303-296=1194 at the par-72, 5,962-yard University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. Purdue finished first with a record total of 287-289-298-293=1167.
Emily Bastel (So., Upper Sandusky, Ohio) won the individual title with a spectacular four day total of 78-69-71-70=288. Bastel's 288 set a new Big Ten Tournament individual total, shattering the old mark of 292, set in 1995. Her final round 70 was the lowest Spartan score of the day, putting her at even par for the tournament.
Kasey Gant (Jr., Fort Wayne, Ohio) also finished in the top-10, tying for eighth-place and shooting 76-71-74-75=296 for the tournament.
Emily Bastel and Kasey Gant were named to the All Big Ten Team. For Gant, it is her third straight honor and the second for Bastel.
Stacy Snider (So., Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished in a tied for 19th-place, firing a four-day total of 73-76-78-78=305. Erin Roe (Fr., Martinsville, Ind.) finished just three shots back of Snider and fired a total of 80-75-80-73=308. Shellie Morton (Fr., Detroit, Mich.) finished 78-78-82-78=316. Jessica Till (Fr., Fort Wayne, Ind.) shot 82-75-85-78=320.
With the season complete, the Spartans are awaiting a bid from the NCAA selection committee on whether or not they will compete in the NCAA East Regional, which takes place May 11-13.
