Spartan Swimmers Make Splash In Washington

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior Tim Gendler (Ypsilanti, Mich.) led the Spartans in the Phillips 66 Spring Nationals in Federal Way, Washington, March 28-April 1. Gendler took 42nd in the 200-meter backstroke preliminaries Wednesday.
Gendler was joined by two other teammates who competed Wednesday. Sophomore Aaron Mahaney (Easton, Pa.) finished 45th in the 200-meter butterfly (2:08.19). Mahaney qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200 butterfly in the 1999 Summer Nationals when he finished 16th.
Ildiko Szekely (Budapest, Hungary) placed 60th in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:21.91.
Junior Andrea Stewart (Trenton, Mich.) competed on Friday in the 100-meter butterfly, finishing 90th in 1:06.04.
Senior Dianne Oliver (Louisville, Ky.) swam the 50-meter freestyle in 27.89 to finish in 85th-place on Saturday.
