Three Spartan Swimmers Compete In Spring Nationals

EAST LANSING, Mich. -
Michigan State junior Tim Gendler (Ypsilanti, Mich.) finished 42nd in the 200-meter backstroke preliminaries at the Phillips 66 Spring Nationals in Federal Way, Washington, March 29.
Gendler was joined by two other teammates who competed Wednesday. Sophomore Aaron Mahaney (Easton, Pa.) finished 45th in the 200-meter butterfly (2:08.19). Mahaney qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200 butterfly in the 1999 Summer Nationals when he finished 16th.
Ildiko Szekely (Budapest, Hungary) placed 60th in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:21.91.
Competition in Federal Way, Washington, continues March 30-April 1. Spartans still to compete include freshman Joe Brennan (Poway, Calif.), junior Andrea Stewart (Trenton, Mich.) and senior Dianne Oliver (Louisville, Ky.).
