MSU Women's Gymnastics Takes Fifth At Big Ten Championships

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Michigan State women's gymnastics team took fifth at the 2000 Big Ten Championships at Penn State on Saturday, March 18. Michigan won the meet with a Big Ten record score of 197.850. Penn State was second at 196.575, followed by Minnesota (196.150), Ohio State in fourth (194.875), Michigan State (193.825), Illinois in sixth (193.750) and Iowa in seventh (192.650).
The Spartans scored 48.575 on the vault, 49.050 on the bars, 47.275 on the beam and 48.925 on the floor.
Spartan junior Melissa Green was named to the All-Big Ten team after tying for fourth on the uneven bars with a 9.900.
MSU's highest finishers individually included freshman Lindsay Trainham's seventh place finish in the all-around with a career-high 38.975. Junior Elisabeth Forshier tied for 10th on the vault with a 9.800 while freshman Christy Linder tied for 15th on the beam with a 9.800 and Green tied for 18th on the floor with a 9.825.
Michigan gymnasts also swept the Big Ten postseason awards: Sarah Cain was named gymnast of the year, Janessa Greico earned freshman of the year honors, while Bev Plocki was the Big Ten's coach of the year.
The Spartans await word to see if they will advance to the NCAA Regionals, which take place on April 1 at 6 p.m.
