Women's Golf Stands 14th At TRW Regional Challenge

EAST LANSING, Mich. - In an elite field which features 12 of the top 15 teams in the nation, Michigan State's women's golf team stands 14th out of 18 teams after one round at the TRW Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. Play continues with 18 holes each on Tuesday and Wednesday at the 5,912-yard, par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club.
The Spartans, who shot a team score of 312, lead three teams which are ranked ahead of them in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, including No. 8 Wake Forest and No. 12 South Carolina. Only SMU, ranked 78th, is ranked ahead of No. 42 Michigan State in the field. Third-ranked Arizona leads the tournament after round one with a 288.
Sophomore Stacy Snider (Grand Rapids, Mich.) leads the Spartans in a tie for 17th individually after shooting a three-over-par 74 in the opening round. Sophomore Emily Bastel (Upper Sandusky, Ohio), tied for 40th with a 77, and redshirt freshman Shellie Morton (Detroit, Mich.), tied for 62nd with a 79, also posted rounds of under 80.
The final two rounds of the TRW Regional Challenge will be played tomorrow and Wednesday.
