Women's Gymnasts Take Second At The Michigan Classic

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's gymnastics team finished second at the Michigan Classic on Sunday, February 6 with a score of 194.325. The Spartans competed against No. 2 Michigan (196.425), Western Michigan (192.375), Central Michigan (191.650) and Eastern Michigan (188.900) in Kalamazoo.
The Spartans were consistent throughout the events, placing third in three out of the five events: vault (48.325), beam (48.600) and the floor exercise (48.675). Michigan State picked up second place finishes on the uneven bars (48.725) and the all-around (38.650).
Melissa Green (Jr., East Lansing, Mich.) placed second on the uneven bars with a 9.850, while senior Polly Kiker (Englewood, Colo.) and freshman Lindsay Trainham (Briarcliff, N.Y.) had a fourth place tie (9.750). Kiker also tied for second on the floor exercise with a 9.850. Trainham finished second in the all-around (38.650), with Christy Linder (Fr., Fremont, Ohio) finishing third with a score of 38.625. Elisabeth Forshier (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) placed fifth in the vault (9.800), while sophomore Jane McIntosh (Concord, Mich.) had a fifth place finish on the balance beam (9.825).
The Spartans return to action on Friday, February 11 against Denver in Colorado at 6 p.m. EST.
