Women's Golf Moves Up To Third At Midwest Classic

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's women's golf team shot a second-round 315 on Saturday to move up one spot into third place among 16 teams after the second day at the Midwest Classic in Dallas, Texas. Sophomore Emily Bastel (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) continued to lead the Spartans at the 5,838-yard, par-72 Hyatt Bear Creek Golf Club, as her two-round 71-80=151 puts her in fourth place individually, just four strokes off the lead shared by Amelia Moses (Missouri) and Lori Sutherland (TCU) at 147.
The Spartans lead all Big Ten teams at the event and are 14 shots behind first-place TCU (614) entering Sunday's final round.
Junior Kasey Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who struggled in Friday's opening round (81), bounced back with the fifth-best round in the field on Saturday. Gant battled through high winds to shoot a 77, giving her a share of 10th place individually with an 81-77=158. Redshirt freshman Shellie Morton (Detroit, Mich.) and freshman Jessica Till (Fort Wayne, Ind.) also shot below 80 on Saturday for the Spartans, as both carded 79s.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Sunday.
