MSU Women Gymnasts Take First At Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's gymnastics team won the Spartan Invitational on Saturday, February 26, with a 194.900 on senior night. No. 21 New Hampshire came in second (194.400), Bowling Green third (192.125) and Southeast Missouri State finished fourth (190.175).
Melissa Green (Jr., East Lansing, Mich.) finished first on the uneven bars with a 9.925, tying third place in the MSU all-time record book and tied for first in the Invitational's record books. She also took second place on the beam (9.900), which ties her for fifth place on the all-time beam list. Green went on to finish first in the all-around (39.375), which gave her a third place tie on the MSU all-around record book and also put her in first for the Invitational record list.
"I think that the meet went really well," said head coach Kathie Klages. "We are looking more polished and I am extremely pleased with the outcome."
Senior Polly Kiker (Englewood, Calif.) finished first on the floor exercise (9.925) at her last home meet at Jenison Field House, which ties her for fourth place on the MSU all-time floor exercise list. This score also put Kiker in first in the Spartan Invitational record books. She also went on to land a second-place finish on the uneven bars with a 9.900, which ties Kiker for tenth place in the MSU all-time record books.
"My last home meet was sad, but a lot of fun," said Kiker. "It was good to have the whole team pull together, which made my last meet very memorable."
As a team, the Spartans had their season-high on the beam with a 48.900 and had their second best score of the season on the uneven bars with a 49.075. Erin Mullen (Sr., Kalamazoo, Mich.) and Kiker were both honored at senior night inwhat was the last home meet of the season.
Michigan State will return to action on Saturday, March 4, against Pittsburgh and Ohio State in Pennsylvania at 7 p.m.
