Spartans Stay In 11th At The Big Ten Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's swimming and diving team finished in 11th place at the Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., Feb. 19. The Spartans earned 95 points in the 20 events. Minnesota captured first with 562.50 points.
Freshman Katie Duncombe (Erie, Pa.) led the Spartans in the swimming events with a 16th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.34.
Junior Laura Atkinson (Ann Arbor, Mich.) produced an 18th-place finish for the Spartans in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:15.25. Freshman Deb O'Neil (Chalfont, Pa.) followed Atkinson, finishing in 20th place (17:16.39).
Top Day Two MSU Finishers:
* Carly Weiden finished 12th in the 3-meter dives (410.20).
* Duncombe took 14th in the 100 backstroke (56.65).
* Stephanie Anisko finished 15th in the 3-meter dives (395.60).
* Summer Mitchell placed 16th in the 3-meter dives (394.10).
Top Day One MSU Finishers:
* Mitchell takes 6th in the 1-meter dives with a score of 385.40.
* Dianne Oliver produces a seventh-place finish in the 50 freestyle (23.40).
* Anisko earned 13th place in the 1-meter dive (328.60).
* Weiden finished 14th in the 1-meter dive with 328.10 points.
* Duncombe took 14th place in the 200 individual medley (2:05.47).
The MSU women's swimming and diving team (3-4 overall, 0-4 Big Ten) will be in action again Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26, at the Last Chance Meet at a time and place to be determined.
