Mens' Soccer Overpowers Northwestern, 6-0

East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team beat Northwestern 6-0 Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the men's Big Ten soccer tournament in Columbus, Ohio. The Spartans (11-5-2) will face Penn State tomorrow at 2:30.
The Spartans struck early, just 7:28 into the match when Jeffrey Krass (Fr., Brighton) took a pass from Craig Hearn (Fr., Farmington Hills) and beat Northwestern goalkeeper Chris Berlin to stake a 1-0 Spartan lead. Thomas Trivelloni (Fr., Mt. Clemens) scored in the 39th minute to give MSU a 2-0 halftime lead. To start the second half, John Minagawa-Webster (Fr., Monroe) scored two consecutive goals. The first came at 50:05 and the second came at 59:15. MSU's final two goals came less than one minute apart, Mike Trivelloni (Sr., Mt. Clemens) scored in the 86th minute and brother Thomas scored his second of the game in the 87th minute to close out the scoring.
The Spartans will try to keep their streak alive tomorrow when they take on Penn State at 2:30. Earlier this year the Spartans upset the Lions 2-0 in their only meeting of the season.
