East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team lost to Oakland University on Wednesday by a score of 1-0. The loss drops the Spartans to 5-5 on the season while the Grizzlies improve to 6-3-1. The game was the first of six straight road games the Spartans will play this month.
Michigan State was only able to muster eight shots on Oakland goalkeeper Mike Skolnik while Oakland fired 10. Spartan keeper T.J. Lieckfelt (Sr., Sterling Heights) made four saves. Steve Arce (Jr., Windsor, Ont.) and Brian Spitzkeit (Jr., Overland Park, Kan.) led the Spartans with two shots apiece.
Oakland's Rob Maxwell netted the game winner at the 68:56 mark.
The Spartans next play Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2:30 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State.
