Men's Soccer Downs Michigan in 2OT, 2-1

East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team defeated in-state rival Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 15 by a score of 2-1 in Ann Arbor. The win marks the second straight OT victory for the Spartans. The Spartans are now 7-5-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the BIg Ten.
Michigan got on the board first at the 10:41 mark when Brian Peters made it 1-0. However, the Spartans would tie the game before the half. John Benoist (Sr., St. Louis, MO) scored on his second penalty kick of the season at the 34:22 mark to make the score 1-1.
In the second half, the Spartans outshot the Wolvernies by a count of 9-2 and ended up out-shooting U-M, 22-16.The Spartans Steve Williford (Sr., Livonia) broke the tie just 1:49 into the second overtime when he scored unassisted to give Michigan State a 2-1 win.
The Spartans will return to action Sunday, October 22 when they travel to Penn State to take on the Nittnay Lions at noon.
