Men's Soccer Drops Big Ten Opener To Indiana

EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State men?s soccer team (3-3-1, 0-1 Big Ten) lost to fourth-ranked Indiana (6-2, 1-0 Big Ten) in its Big Ten opener, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind.
The game remained scoreless until the 78:43 mark, when Indiana?s Matt Fundenberger slipped a shot past MSU goalkeeper Tim Lieckfelt (Sterling Heights, Mich.) from 12 yards out. Indiana?s second goal came in the 87th minute from Yari Lavrinenko, with Fundenberger providing the assist.
Hoosier goalkeeper Doug Warren had two saves, while MSU?s Lieckfelt had three. Indiana outshot the Spartans, 6-4.
Michigan State returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 against the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers. The game begins at 4:00 p.m. at Old College Field on the MSU campus.
