SPARTANS OPEN BIG TEN SEASON: The men?s soccer team travels to Bloomington, Ind. on Sunday, Sept.26 to face the defending national champion Indiana Hoosiers in its Big Ten opener. MSU lost to the Hoosiers last season, 3-0, and trail Indiana in the all-time series, 8-24-1. The Spartans finished last season?s Big Ten campaign with a 1-4 record.
CALIFORNIA TRIP RECAP: Michigan State went 1-1 on its California trip this past weekend. The Spartans defeated St. Mary?s (CA), 2-1, on Friday, Sept. 17. Junior Mike Trivelloni (Mount Clemens, Mich.) tallied his first two goals of the season to secure the victory. On Sunday, Sept. 19, MSU had its three-game winning streak snapped by the 23rd-ranked Cal Golden Bears, 4-1. Sophomore Brett Konley (Plymouth, Mich.) scored the lone goal of the game for the Spartans, his first on the season.
STAT LEADERS: Senior Keith Gordon (Birmingham, Mich.) and Mike Trivelloni lead the team with six points each. Gordon has three goals on the season, while Trivelloni has two goals and two assists. Gordon is tied with three others for fourth-place in the Big Ten in goals, and is tied for fifth in points. Trivelloni and junior John Benoist (St. Louis) are each tied for seventh in the league in goals with two.
