Spartan Volleyball Ranked No. 22 on AVCA Preseason Poll

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State volleyball team is No. 22 according to the annual American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason Division I coaches poll, released August 12. The Spartans were also ranked No. 22 in the final poll of 1998.
Five other Big Ten teams join Michigan State in the top 25. 1998 NCAA runner-up Penn State opens the 1999 season ranked No. 1. Wisconsin is ranked ninth, followed by Illinois at No. 14, Ohio State at No. 17 and 22nd-ranked MSU.
The Spartans opened last season ranked No. 17 and were in the top 25 for 14 consecutive weeks. MSU has been ranked in the AVCA preseason poll every year since 1995.
