EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State sophomore Pat McNamara (Jordan, Minn.) and freshman Chris Williams (Fowlerville, Mich.) have been selected to participate in the Big Ten All-Stars vs. Ukraine National Team freestyle dual meet to be held at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center on May 23.
McNamara, a 1998 All-American at 126 pounds and 1999 Big Ten Champion at 133 lbs., will wrestle at 132 pounds. He finished the 1999 season with a record of 33-8.
Williams, who just finished his first season at MSU with a 21-20 record, is no stranger to international competition. He was a FILA Junior National Greco-Roman champion in 1998.
Originally, each Big Ten school was to have one representative on the all-star team, but when a spot opened up Williams was asked to join, making MSU the only school with two members.
The dual meet between the Big Ten All-Stars and the Ukraine National Team is funded by a grant to the Big Ten Conference as part of the NCAA/U.S. Olympic Committee conference grant program. The Ukraine team will include university age athletes, many who have already been successful on the international level and are hopefuls for the 2000 Olympic Games.
The dual meet will start at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa.
