Wrestlers Capture Titles at Ashland Open

ASHLAND, OHIO - Michigan State wrestling sophomores Pat McNamara (Jordan, Minnesota) and Mike Castillo (Ada) each won titles this weekend at the 6th Annual Eagle Open at Ashland University in Ohio.
McNamara defeated Quantres Bates of the University of Findlay 11-2 to capture the title at 133 pounds, improving his record to 7-0 on the season, including two falls and three technical falls. He is currently ranked third in the nation by Amatuer Wrestling News and second by the Intermat Wrestling Resource.
Meanwhile, Castillo won by an injury forfeit at 149 pounds to capture the first title of his collegiate career. He defeated Stan Spoor of Clarion University of Pennsylvania in the semi-final, 9-5. He is currently 8-1.
Several Spartans finished second in their respective weight classes, including: senior Issac Miller (Flint) at 141 pounds; junior William Hill (Indianapolis, IN) at 174 pounds; freshman Nik Fekete (Cranford, NJ) at 184 pounds; and junior Nick Muzashvili (Unadilla, NY) at 197 pounds.
Also, 125-pound freshman Chris Williams (Perry) and sophomore heavyweight Matt Lamb (Pensacola, FL) each took third place in their respective weight classes.
The Spartans will next wrestle in the Northern Iowa Open in Waterloo, Iowa on December 5.
