Women's Gymnastics Second At Shanico Invitational

Corvallis, Ore. - The Michigan State women's gymnastics team finished second in the four-team Shanico Invitational in Corvallis, Ore., on Friday, March 5. The Spartans' score of 187.675 was runner-up to host and 14th-ranked Oregon State's team total of 194.625. MSU edged Southeast Missouri State (187.575), while Seattle Pacific rounded out the team finishers with a score of 184.300.
Senior Mary Jo Schlicklin posted a career-best score of 37.825 in the all-around, good for a third-place finish. Her top finish in the meet was a fourth-place showing on the balance beam with a score of 9.575.
As a team, the Spartans' top performance was on the floor exercise with sophomore Melissa Green placing second with a mark of 9.825 and junior Polly Kiker taking third-place honors with a score of 9.800.
MSU's other top finisher was sophomore Elisabeth Forshier, who took third-place honors on the vault with a score of 9.750.
The Spartans, who are 13-8 overall, travel to Los Angeles, Calif., to compete in the UCLA Invitational on Sunday, March 7. In addition to the 11th-ranked Bruins, the meet will include California and Kentucky.
