Women's Gymnastics Heads to New Hampshire

EAST LANSING, Mich. - NEXT MEET - Michigan State travels to Durham, N.H. for the Fox Run Invitational, featuring No. 24 New Hampshire, Texas Womans and Ball State.
SERIES RECORDS - MSU is 11-5 against New Hampshire and won the teams only meeting in 1998, 195.850-192.550. Michigan State has competed only one time against Texas Womans, winning 194.750-190.625 in 1996. The Spartans are 9-0 versus Ball State. The teams met in their season openers with MSU winning 190.925-188.950.
MSU PLACES SECOND AT SPARTAN INVITATIONAL - Michigan State placed second out of four teams in the 10th annual Quality Dairy Invitational at Jenison Field House on February 13. Nebraska won the invitational with a 195.025 followed by the Spartans 193.050. Illinois-Chicago finished third (191.350) and Towson finished fourth with a 191.250. Carolyn Hecht placed first in the all-around and balance beam competitions with scores of 39.175 (a season high) and 9.925, respectively and tied teammate Melissa Green for first on the floor exercise with a 9.850.
RECORDING HISTORY - MSU set the fourth-best beam score in school history with its 49.075 performance at the Spartan Invitational on Feb. 13. The team also tied the seventh-best floor score with a 49.025.
HOW THE HECHT DOES SHE DO IT? - Senior Carolyn Hecht won the all-around with a season-high 39.175 at the Spartan Invitational on Feb. 13. Her all-around score was ninth-best in MSU history. She also hit the second-best balance beam score in school history to win that event with a 9.925, while tying for first with teammate Melissa Green on the floor (9.850). Her all-around season average of 38.825 leads the team. She also is tops on the team on the uneven bars (9.658) and the balance beam (9.854).
MARKED IMPROVEMENT - Sophomore Lori Ruane, who did not compete on the balance beam collegiately until this season, set her career high at the Spartan Invitational on Feb. 13 with a 9.750. In her last three meets, she has gone from a 9.175 to a 9.700 to a 9.750!
IN THE RANKINGS - The Spartans are not rated in the Top 25 this week, which is based on season average. As a team, Michigan State is 23rd on the vault (48.254). Individually, Carolyn Hecht is sixth on the balance beam at 9.854 and 24th in the all-around at 38.825.
