Spartan Gymnasts Place Second in 10th Annual Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State placed second out of four teams in the 10th annual Quality Dairy Invitational at Jenison Field House on February 13. Nebraska won the invitational with a 195.025 followed by the Spartans' 193.050. Illinois-Chicago finished third (191.350) and Towson finished fourth with a 191.250.
Carolyn Hecht (Baltimore, MD) placed first in the all-around and uneven bars competitions with scores of 39.175 (a season high) and 9.900, respectively. Sophomore Melissa Green (East Lansing, MI) won the floor exercise with a 9.850.
"I was pleased with our performance tonight," said MSU head coach Kathie Klages. "After bombing on vault, I liked the way we came together on floor exercise and balance beam. I'm very proud of the team."
"We hit all our routines on balance beam," said senior Carolyn Hecht. "It was our biggest home crowd of the year and we just wanted to put on a good show."
