Men's Soccer Team Falls to Oakland

East Lansing, MI - The Michigan State men's soccer team fell behind early against Oakland University on Wednesday and came out on the short end of a 3-1 verdict to the Golden Grizzlies in a game played at OU.
The Spartans trailed by a 2-0 margin at halftime as Paul Snape (17:00) and Ron Mashni (41:18) accounted for Oakland's goals. OU upped its lead to 3-0 at the 63:10 mark when Ben Davey scored . The Spartans' lone tally of the game came from junior Matt Phillips at 73:06, his second goal of the year.
Oakland finished the game with a 10-8 edge in shot attempts and had 13 corner kicks to the Spartans' seven. MSU goalkeeper T.J. Lieckfelt (Sterling Heights) made one save while OU keeper Mike Skolnik recorded four stops.
The setback, MSU's fifth, leaves its record at 5-6 overall. The Spartans' next action will take place this Sunday (Oct. 11) with a Big Ten encounter at Ohio State starting at 2:00 p.m.
