EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but a bid for a come-from-behind win fall by the wayside this afternoon as Loyola of Chicago topped the Spartans, 3-2, in a game played at Chicago.
After falling behind by a pair of goals early in the second half, the Spartan freshman Brett Konley (Plymouth) picked up his first goal of the season at the 46:50 mark to draw the Green and White to within one. At the 60:00 mark, senior forward Chris Slosar (Grand Blanc) notched his first marker of the campaign to deadlock the game. However, the Ramblers' Ivan Olorgadze put the hosts ahead to stay with 18 minutes remaining. The Spartans held a 13-10 edge in shot attempts while Loyola posted a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. MSU sophomore goalie T.J. Lieckfelt (Sterling Heights) finished the game with 10 saves.
The setback, MSU's third straight, leaves the team's mark at 5-4 overall while Loyola upped its record to 3-8. The Spartans' next action takes place on Sunday (Oct. 4) when it entertains Illinois-Chicago at Old College Field starting at 2:30 p.m.
