Michigan State's women's gymnastics team total score of 190.225 gave MSU a third place finish in the four team meet held at Iowa State. No. 11 Nebraska finished in first place with a score of 193.725, followed by No. 21 Iowa State at 192.575. Winona State took last place with a score of 182.525.
MSU was led by senior Carolyn Hecht (Baltimore, Md.), sophomores Elisabeth Forshier (South St. Paul, Mn.) and Melissa Green (East Lansing, Mi.). Hecht grabbed a second-place in the all-around with a season best score of 38.90. Forshier and Green collected second and third place on vault with scores of 9.725 and 9.700, respectively.
"Overall, I think under the adversity of all the injuries, the toll traveling takes on the team, and Melissa green not being 100% due to a recent illness, we put it together well," Michigan State head coach Kathie Klages. "We struggled on bars, which was one of our strongest events last year and also on balance beam, but pulled it together nicely to win vault and floor. Through making a few changes on the lineups and adding more team pressure workouts to the team's practices for the next week, we should be prepares for the dual meet against Ohio State."
Michigan State moves to 4-2 on the season. The team travels to Ohio state next weekend for a dual meet with the Buckeyes on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 7pm.
