Crew Successful in First Regatta of Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. - All five Michigan State boats finished in the top 14 of their respective races Saturday in the first competition of the 1998-99 season in the Head of the Ohio regatta in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The top MSU entry in the open eight finished in fifth-place out of 20 boats with a time of 13.19.9. The second Spartan boat placed 14th with a time of 14.01. The winner of the race was the University of Virginia with a time of 13:00.
In the open four competition, MSU's top boat rowed to the top of the competition, placing first out of 15 with a time of 14:25. The Spartans' second boat in the division was eighth out of 15 in 15:07. MSU was also victorious in the club eight competition in a time of 13:50.3.
The Spartans will return to competition on Sun., Oct. 11, at the Head of the Rock in Rockford, Ill.
