Seven Spartans Named Volleyball Academic All-Big Ten

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Seven Michigan State volleyball players earned Academic All-Big Ten honors, released Dec. 8. Four players were repeat picks led by senior Tammy Vonderheide, who earned the third selection of her career. Juniors Sarah Gustin, Jessica Sanborn and Maren Witzel were chosen for a second straight year. Junior Vicki Basil and sophomores Lisa Ashton and Erin Hartley each earns her first academic all-conference award in 1999.
This year marks the most MSU players selected to the Academic All-Big Ten team since the inception of the award in 1987.
To be elibible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, an athlete must be a letterwinner in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
