Two Grapplers Still Alive At Midlands Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Two Michigan State wrestlers are still alive at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill. As a team the Spartans are in 11th place with 29 points, while Iowa leads the Championships with 72.5 points.
Senior Greg DeGrand remains in the draw at 165 pounds after winning two matches in the consolation bracket. DeGrand scored a 14-5 major decision over Tim Bonebright of Marantha and pinned Pittsburgh?s Carl Fronhofer in 3:36.
Redshirt freshman Gray Maynard advanced through the 157-pound consolation bracket during session two, winning four matches by a combined score of 48-27.
Wrestling at the Midlands Championships will wrap up late Thursday evening, and the No. 8 Spartans will then begin preparation for their Jan. 2 dual meet showdown with No. 19 Arizona State. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Jenison Wrestling Arena.
