Spartan Swimmer Finishes Eighth at World Cup

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Freshman Katie Duncombe (Erie, Pa.) was the only Spartan to compete in the finals at the World Cup Series in College Park, Md., Wednesday, Nov. 17, finishing eighth in the 50 backstroke with a time of 29.93.
In the preliminaries, junior John Munley (Kalamazoo, Mich.) finished 12th in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:57.79. Sophomore Aaron Mahaney (Easton, Pa.) finished 20th in the 200 butterfly (2:08.73). Senior Dianne Oliver (Louisville, Ky.) finished 24th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.64.
Competition between swimmers from 38 nations continues Thursday, Nov. 18, in College Park, Md., at the University of Maryland Campus Recreation Center Natatorium. Munley will compete in the 200 freestyle, while Duncombe swims the 100 backstroke.
