EAST LANSING, Mich. - Fort Wayne, Ind., native Ben Fox has signed a National Letter of Intent in the early signing period to attend Michigan State next fall and play golf for the Spartans.
Fox, a two-time first-team all-state selection at Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne, is the first recruit for Michigan State?s first-year head coach Mark Hankins.
?Ben has shown from a very early age that he is a winner, and that is a major quality which I look for,? Hankins said. ?We were looking for an immediate impact player, and I feel that we have one in Ben.
?He has an excellent short game and a lot of good techniques which demonstrate his dedication to the game,? Hankins added. ?He has the kind of work ethic we are looking for and will work to contribute the most that he can to the Michigan State team.?
Fox was the youngest qualifier for the U.S. Amateur in 1997, when he was 15 years old. The 1999 Indiana Boys State medalist, he has made the Indiana team for the Tri-State Challenge (Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana) each of the last three years (the only freshman chosen for the team in 1997). He is a three-time all-conference and two-time all-area selection.
Fox continues a strong Fort Wayne-Michigan State golfing connection which also includes current Spartan women?s golfers Kasey Gant and Jessica Till, both of Bishop Dwenger High School.
