Morley Named Volleyball Big Ten Player of the Week

East Lansing, Mich. - Redshirt freshman Angela Morley (Holland, Mich.), a middle on the Spartan volleyball team, was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 25. Morley became the third MSU player to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season and the second in as many weeks. Jessica Sanborn earned the award on Sept. 14 and Erin Hartley was honored last week.
Morley set the MSU single-match blocking record with 14 (1-13) against Indiana on Oct. 23, helping State to a 3-1 win over the Hoosiers. She also tied the single-match block assists record with 13. That mark ranks her tied for eighth on the Big Ten single-match block assists list. As a team, Michigan State tied the school single-match blocks record with 24 total and set the school single-match record for team block assists with 40.
On Oct. 22 Morley tied her then career-high with nine blocks against No. 20 Illinois in a 3-0 win. For the weekend, Morley recorded 23 blocks, also getting the 100th of her career. She hit .560 with 15 kills in MSU?s two wins, averaging 2.14 kills and 3.29 blocks per game.
Michigan State (15-7, 5-5 Big Ten), riding a four-match winning streak, returns to action on Friday, Oct. 29 at No. 22 Minnesota and Saturday, Oct. 30 at Iowa.
