Deputy Athletic Director Jennifer Smith, who is in her 23rd year as the compliance director at Michigan State, and 28th year overall at MSU, was appointed the Senior Women's Administrator for the MSU Athletic Department in 2018. In addition, she serves as the sport supervisor for hockey.
Smith oversees all internal operations for the department: Student-Athlete Support Services, Sport Management, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Compliance. She also reports to the Office of the General Counsel. In addition, Smith plays a prominent role in the scholarship allocation for student-athletes, including housing, board, books, cost of attendance and student-athlete opportunity fund distribution. She was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director in August 2015.
Promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance in 2002, Smith served as the compliance coordinator from 1999-2001 and also spent three years as the assistant compliance coordinator.
Smith came to Michigan State from Louisville in December of 1997, where she was a compliance assistant with the Cardinals from 1995-97 and served as interim compliance coordinator in the fall of '97.
A native of Hartford, Wisconsin, Smith earned her bachelor's degrees in political science and international relations from the University of Wisconsin in 1992 and a master's degree in sports administration from Louisville in 1995.
