Ted Flaherty enters his first season as an assistant secondary coach at Michigan State in 2026.

Flaherty spent the previous four seasons (2022-25) as an assistant coach at Dayton. He coached the hybrid linebacker/defensive back position during his time with the Flyers.

He has previous experience working for defensive coordinator Joe Rossi, serving as a defensive intern at Minnesota with the linebackers during the 2021-22 academic year. The Gophers ranked in the top 10 in both total defense (No. 3) and scoring defense (No. 6) in 2021 and finished 9-4 with a victory over West Virginia in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

A four-year letterwinner at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts, Flaherty was named a team captain as a senior in 2019 and earned the team’s special teams player of the year award. He began his coaching career in 2020 at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The Hanover, Massachusetts, native earned his degree in communications from Curry in 2020.
