Ruth M. Baer, DO, is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her first residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Midwestern University in Illinois, followed by an Orthopedic Upper Extremity Fellowship at the University of Chicago. After practicing for several years, she returned to Michigan State University and completed a second residency in General Psychiatry, with a special emphasis in sports. Â
Dr. Baer is the Associate Chair of Clinical Operations for the MSU Department of Psychiatry, Medical Director of the MSU Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and Section Director of the Division of Sports Psychiatry. She is certified through the American Board of Sports and Performance Psychiatry and serves as a Clinical Consultant to the MSU Division of Sports Medicine - Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. In addition, she provides psychiatric consultative services to university athletic departments within the NCAA "power four" conferences. Her special interests include performance enhancement and return to play after injury.
