Larson oversees a staff of 14 full-time employees, four interns/graduate assistants and many undergraduate assistants responsible for all communication efforts of Michigan State athletics, including the sports information, Spartan Vision and graphic design departments.
While serving as interim director in 2016-17, Larson oversaw a group that won four Michigan Emmy Awards and five CoSIDA publication awards, including two for best overall media guide and three for best media guide cover design.
For the last 18 seasons, Larson has handled all media relations duties for the men's basketball team, during which time the Spartans have appeared in six Final Fours and 18 NCAA Tournaments, and captured five Big Ten regular-season championships and four Big Ten Tournament titles. He also was responsible for the promotional campaigns for two National Players of the Year, seven All-Americans, and four Big Ten Players of the Year.
Arriving at Michigan State as a sports information intern in 1998, Larson was promoted to Assistant Director in 1999 and Associate Director in 2005. In 2010, he was named New Media Director, taking on the responsibilities of incorporating social media into the department's communication efforts.
Larson received his bachelor's degree in public policy from Duke University in 1998.
