East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's and women's golf programs begin play in the Folds of Honor Collegiate on Monday, Sept. 7 at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich.

This will be the fifth annual Folds of Honor Collegiate for the men's side and the third time the tournament will host a women's field.

There are 22 different colleges and universities representing the 27 teams (15 men, 12 women) in the combined field. The field includes some of the best golf programs in the country, including eight ranked among the top-30 in the country in preseason polls, as well as Service Academies, a Division II team on each side and a men's and women's HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities).

Live television coverage of the tournament will be provided on The Golf Channel, with daily broadcasts from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Rebroadcasts of the competition will also be aired. Last year's Collegiate reached nearly one million viewers across 12 live & replay telecasts, one of the largest unique audiences for an NCAA golf tournament on Golf Channel in 2025.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

The names on the roster will change but the expectations rarely do when it comes to Michigan State women's golf and Head Coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll.
Two years ago, the Spartans graduated two of the top-five players in program history. What happened last year? MSU continued its success, advancing to the NCAA Championships for the 18th-time all-time and the 16th under Slobodnik-Stoll.
This year, Michigan State graduated three players from its senior class, including Taylor Kehoe, who leaves East Lansing with a 72.33 scoring average in two years, the best-ever in program history.
One year's graduation hands the baton off to others and that group includes four golfers who as freshmen and sophomores in 2025-26 combined to play in more than 100 rounds, including in the NCAA Regionals and Championships.
Senior Ana Sofia Muria is the most experienced returnee with 74 rounds in her career, including 63 in the last two seasons … She carried a 75.25 scoring average last year and had three top-20 finishes, including a tie for 37th place when the MSU tied for fourth place at the regionals.
Rising sophomores Sarisa Pojanalai and Lucia Valderrama and rising junior Grace Vetter appeared in 10 tournaments last year, including all of the postseason.
Pojanalai was third on the team with a 74.21 scoring average and was the team's second finisher at the NCAA Championships (6-over par 222).
Valderrama was fifth on the team with a 74.71 scoring average and tied for 16th place at the NCAA Regionals.
Vetter, a transfer from Queen's University, was fourth on the team with a 74.56 average.
Four newcomers, including senior transfer Keeley Marx, as well as junior Catalina Monroy and three freshmen, Almendra Campoverde, Payton Haugen and Angelina Zhang, will all challenge for spots in the scoring lineup.
In three seasons at Iowa State, Marx competed in 26 events and carried a 75.22 scoring average in 72 rounds.
Campoverde and Zhang arrive at MSU with extensive international experience while Haugen was the state high school champion in Wisconsin.

Michigan State finished in fifth place among 12 teams in the inaugural women's event in 2025, with then-junior Ana Sofia Murcia shooting a 3-over par 219 and tying for ninth place.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

Michigan State opened the 2026-27 season last week with a tie for third place in the New York Harbor Club at the Bayonne Golf Club in New Jersey.
The Spartans, who entered the final round in fifth place, had four players finish under par on Tuesday (Sept. 1) as the team closed the two-day 54-hole tournament with the best team round of the day (278).
Michigan State tied for third place at 11-under par 841 (283-280-278).
Senior McCoy Biagioli led the Spartans, finishing in eighth place at 5-under par 208 (68-67-73) … Biagioli, who shot a 2-over par 73 on Tuesday, finished the tournament leading the field in pars (39) and had 10 birdies over 54 holes.
Junior Julian Menser tied for 10th place, his second career finish among the top-10, at 3-under par 210 (72-68-70) … Menser was tied for eighth in the field with 13 birdies and his score of 210 was the second-best 54-hole score of his career.
Senior Lucas Acevedo tied for 19th place at 1-over par 214 (72-72-70) … Acevedo, who closed with a 1-under par 70, was tied for sixth in the field with 35 pars over 54 holes.
Senior Lorenzo Pinili and sophomore Luke Mueller tied for 23rd place with scores of 2-over par 215, respectively … Pinili shot a 1-under par 70 on Tuesday to finish at 2-over par 215 (72-73-70). He was tied for third in the field with 37 pars over 54 holes … Mueller had the team's best round of the day at 3-under par 68, the best round of his career to finish at 2-over par 215 (71-76-68).

SPARTANS AT THE FOLDS OF HONOR COLLEGIATE

This will be Michigan State's fifth appearance in the Folds of Honor Collegiate, a tournament that started on an idea from MSU Head Coach Casey Lubahn.
The best finish for Michigan State was a second-place showing in 2023, with then-senior August Meekhof tying for sixth place at 1-over par 214.
The Spartans finished in seventh place last year with then-senior Caleb Bond in sixth place at even-par 213, were fourth of 15 teams in 2024 as Ashton McCulloch fired a 6-under par 207 to tie for fourth and the team was seventh in the inaugural event in 2022.

AMERICAN DUNES GOLF CLUB
In 2006, the Grand Haven Golf Club hosted a small golf tournament that would inspire the formation of Folds of Honor. The Grand Haven Golf Club closed in 2018 and a small group of patriots joined together with Jack Nicklaus to create American Dunes. The mission of American Dunes is unwavering. We are honored to raise awareness and funds for the families of our fallen and disabled veterans. Jack Nicklaus led the project by donating his $3,000,000 design fee, a group of eighteen individuals sponsored a hole and five private investors joined together to preserve the birthplace of Folds of Honor.

Lt Col Dan Rooney, a fighter pilot in the USAFR and PGA Professional founded Folds of Honor in 2007.

"American Dunes represents a collaboration of countless likeminded patriots, who want this golf course to forever stand as a tribute to the birthplace of Folds of Honor, a safe haven for veterans who find rehabilitation through the recreation of the game, and a backdrop to celebrate our country and those who fought for its freedom" said Rooney. A significant legacy such as this is born out of the effort of selfless individuals and companies who have donated their time and resources.

Folds of Honor is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of US military service members and first responders who have fallen or been disabled while serving our country and communities.
