Michigan State Athletics Announces Plan for Wrestling Facility Renovations
9/23/2026
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State Athletics and wrestling head coach Roger Chandler unveiled plans for a renovated wrestling training facility inside historic Jenison Field House on Wednesday. Renovations are expected to be completed in advance of the 2027-28 season.
The project includes significant upgrades to the team’s practice space, locker room, athletic training space, cardio area and coaches’ offices.
“I’m excited for our wrestlers to have both their practice space and all of their resources in one centralized location,” said Chandler, who last season received a contract extension through 2029 and is entering his 30th year on the Spartan wrestling staff and his 11th as head coach in 2026-27.
“This renovation is going to be a gamechanger for us, and our guys are excited to start training in the new space.”

A highlight of the renovation is the increased square footage of Michigan State’s wall-to-wall mat space. The new wrestling room, a renovated existing space within Jenison, also includes dedicated space for team athletic trainer Brett Penning, televisions for film review and a mezzanine level for cardio equipment and additional team space.
Added benefits of the program’s transition to a new facility inside Jenison Field House include improved access to the student-athlete fueling and nutrition station, equipment and laundry services, additional athletic training services and strength & conditioning facilities.
Wrestling’s move to Jenison Field House creates a centralized location for 12 of Michigan State’s Olympic athletics programs, including baseball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track & field, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, gymnastics, softball, volleyball and wrestling.
