Five in the Top-25 as Michigan State Ties for Third at New York Harbor Cup to Open Season

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team fired a 6-under par 278 in the final round and finished in a tie for third place among nine teams at the New York Harbor Cup, played at the Bayonne Golf Club (par 71, 7,375 yards) in Bayonne, N.J.

The Spartans, who entered the final round in fifth place, had four players finish under par on Tuesday as the team closed the two-day 54-hole tournament with the best team round of the day (278).

Michigan State tied for third place at 11-under par 841 (283-280-278).

Kansas captured the team title at 25-under par 827 (269-277-281), two shots ahead of second-place Purdue (23-under par 829). The Spartans were tied for third place with Little Rock at 11-under par 841 and host Rutgers placed fifth at 6-under par 856.

Senior McCoy Biagioli led the Spartans, finishing in eighth place at 5-under par 208 (68-67-73). Biagioli, who shot a 2-over par 73 on Tuesday, finished the tournament leading the field in pars (39) and had 10 birdies over 54 holes.

Julian Menser tied for 10th place, his second career finish among the top-10, at 3-under par 210 (72-68-70). Menser was tied for eighth in the field with 13 birdies and his score of 210 was the second-best 54-hole score of his career.

Senior Lucas Acevedo tied for 19th place at 1-over par 214 (72-72-70). Acevedo, who closed with a 1-under par 70, was tied for sixth in the field with 35 pars over 54 holes.

Senior Lorenzo Pinili and sophomore Luke Mueller tied for 23rd place with scores of 2-over par 215, respectively. Pinili shot a 1-under par 70 on Tuesday to finish at 2-over par 215 (72-73-70). He was tied for third in the field with 37 pars over 54 holes. Mueller had the team's best round of the day at 3-under par 68, the best round of his career to finish at 2-over par 215 (71-76-68).

Playing as individuals, junior Drew Miller tied for 53rd place at 16-over par 229 (75-72-83) and sophomore Connor Fox finished in 55th place at 17-over par 230 (80-79-71).

The Spartans are back in action next week, hosting the fifth edition of the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Course in Grand Haven, Mich. The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs from Monday, Sept. 7 to Wednesday, Sept. 9. Live television coverage of the tournament will be provided on The Golf Channel, with daily broadcasts from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
