East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team shot a 5-under par 563 (283-280) over two rounds and is in fifth place among nine teams after the first day of play at the New York Harbor Cup, being played at the Bayonne Golf Club (par 71, 7,375 yards) in Bayonne, N.J.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday.
Kansas leads the lead field at 22-under par 546, one shot ahead of second-place Purdue (21-under par 547). Little Rock is in third place (17-under par 551), with Marquette in fourth place at 9-under par 559 (276-283) and the Spartans in fifth place, two strokes ahead of USF and host Rutgers.
Senior McCoy Biagioli was the leader for the Spartans on the first day of play, firing a 7-under 135 (68-67) to tie for fourth place individually. Biagioli had eight birdies and a tournament-best 27 pars over 36 holes.
Junior Julian Menser is tied for 12th place after a 1-under par 140 (72-68), including a 3-under par 68 in the second round. His second-round score of 68 is tied for the second-best round of his career.
Senior Lucas Acevedo was steady in both rounds, tying for 24th place at 2-over par 144 (72-72). He had four birdies overall and highlighted his second round with an eagle on the par-5, 579-yard eighth hole.
Senior Lorenzo Pinili is tied for 29th place at 3-over par 145 (72-73) and sophomore Luke Mueller is tied for 39th place at 5-over par 147 (71-76).
Playing as individuals, junior Drew Miller is tied for 39th place at 5-over par 146 (75-72) and sophomore Connor Fox is tied for 55th place at 17-over par 158 (80-79)
The event's signature wrinkle is its transportation: rather than a standard team bus commute, players and staff will be ferried across New York Harbor from the Brookfield Place Terminal in Lower Manhattan directly to Bayonne Golf Club, with teams headquartered at the New York Marriott Downtown for the week.
