Men’s Golf Opens Season on Monday at New York Harbor Cup

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team opens up the 2026-27 season on Monday, August 31 playing in the New York Harbor Cup, at the Bayonne Golf Club in Bayonne, N.J.
The nine-team field will play 36 holes on Monday and the tournament concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 1 with 18 holes.
The event's signature wrinkle is its transportation: rather than a standard team bus commute, players and staff will be ferried across New York Harbor from the Brookfield Place Terminal in Lower Manhattan directly to Bayonne Golf Club, with teams headquartered at the New York Marriott Downtown for the week.

MICHIGAN STATE IN SEASON-OPENING EVENTS
Last year, the Spartans opened the season at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, finishing in fourth place among 12 teams at 32-under par 832 (282-277-273). McCoy Biagioli, in his first event for MSU, tied for third place at 15-under par 201.
In the previous two years, Michigan State opened the season at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, held at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich. To open the 2024-25 season, MSU placed fourth of 15 teams at 9-over par 861 (287-284-290) and in 2023-24, the Spartans finished second of 18 teams at 9-over par 861.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
Michigan State enters the 2026-27 season looking to make it back to the NCAA Regionals after a streak of four-straight appearances ended last season. The Spartans welcome back a trio of seniors who have been key parts of the lineup, with each of them ranking among the top-five on the team in scoring average last year.
Senior Lorenzo Pinili, a Big Ten Championships All-Tournament Team selection in 2025, is the most experienced golfer at MSU returning. He was third on the team last season with a 72.48 scoring average.
McCoy Biagioli transferred to MSU last year after earning All-American honors as a sophomore at Ferris State. He finished third on the team with a 72.56 scoring average and posted a pair of top-10 finishes.
Lucas Acevedo appeared in eight tournaments last year and carried a 73.32 average.
A pair of juniors and two sophomores who have had experience in the lineup and in the postseason add to the team's depth. Juniors Drew Miller and Julian Menser have both been key scoring members during their first two years, including Miller leading the team at the 2025 NCAA Regional. Rising sophomores Connor Fox and Luke Mueller picked up lineup appearances in their first season, with Mueller part of the final three events and tied for 34th place at the Big Ten Championships.

"First off, it's just great to start the season and have the boys back together. We've got some big shoes to fill with the two (Caleb Bond and Ashton McCulloch) we lost last year but I think we've also got some experience in the lineup and some younger guys ready to take that next step. More than anything, I'm just excited for the opportunity for our guys to play in this really unique event. The Bayonne Golf Glub is a hidden gem and getting the experience to take a ferry across New York Harbor will be something none of forget."
