Michigan State Draws 2-2 against Notre Dame in Final Exhibition

EAST LANSING, Mich. – In its final exhibition game, Michigan State men's soccer battled to a 2-2 tie with Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana at Alumni Stadium on Friday.

"This was a great test going into our first regular season game next Thursday," MSU head coach Damon Rensing said. "Notre Dame is a very good program and well coached. I thought we started well and created some good chances. We had a really good first goal. Our attackers looked dangerous. There is some great stuff we can learn from this game as well. Once again, everyone played a bit. So all in all, I am very pleased with the game today."

Senior forward Richie Ludwig scored the first Spartan goal. The play started with passes from junior forward Oscar Huerta to senior midfielder Leo Conneh, who found Ludwig.

Michigan State added a second goal off a set piece. Junior midfielder Brandon Munson scored a header off a free kick from senior midfielder Miles Merritt.

The Spartans open the 2026 regular season on Thursday, Aug. 20, hosting Albany at 7 p.m.
