Women’s Golf in Seventh Place at NCAA Chapel Hill Regional

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 6-over par 286 in the first round and is in seventh place among 12 teams at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, being played at UNC's Finley Golf Club (par-70, 6,177 yards).
Host North Carolina shot a 6-under par 274 and leads top-seeded Texas by five shots (1-under par 279). Virginia is in third place at 1-over par 281, with Oklahoma State and Mississippi State tied for fourth place at 2-over par 282. NC State is in sixth place at 3-over par 283 and the Spartans sit just four shots outside the top-five teams at 6-over par 286.
Senior Taylor Kehoe and freshman Lucia Valderrama both posted scores of even-par 70 and are tied for 12th place to lead the Spartans.
Junior Ana Sofia Murcia is tied for 26th place at 2-over par 72, freshman Sarisa Pojanalai is tied for 38th place at 4-over par 74 and sophomore Grace Vetter shot a 6-over par 76 and is tied for 48th place.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament continues on Tuesday, May 12 and concludes on Wednesday.
The Spartans will tee off in the second round at 8:55 a.m., playing alongside Kent State and Furman.
The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site will advance to compete in the national championships to be played May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
