This Week In Spartan Athletics – April 21
Here's a look at the week ahead (April 21-27) for Michigan State Athletics:
Men's Tennis
Having won its first Big Ten Championship since 1967, Michigan State men's tennis has earned the No. 1 seed going into the Big Ten Tournament, which will be held Wednesday-Sunday, April 22-25, at Libby Park in Ojai, California. Michigan State earned a first-round bye and will begin competition in the quarterfinals, competing against the winner of Wednesday's first-round match between No. 9 seed Indiana and No. 8 seed Oregon. The NCAA Tournament selection show will air Monday (April 27) at 4 p.m. on NCAA.com.
Women's Golf
Michigan State will compete in the Big Ten Championships running Friday through Sunday at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, California. For the second year in a row, live coverage of the final round will air on Big Ten Network.
Baseball
Michigan State hosts four games at Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Stadium this week. Wednesday, the Spartans and Notre Dame will start at 6:02 p.m., with Big Ten Network televising the action. Maryland comes to East Lansing for a three-game Big Ten series this weekend. First pitch on Friday is 6:02, followed by a 3:32 start on Saturday and 1:02 on Sunday.
Softball
The Spartans are scheduled to play five games this week, including four at home at Secchia Stadium. Tuesday, Michigan State hosts Western Michigan at 5 p.m. Wednesday, the Spartans are on the road at Notre Dame. This weekend, MSU is back at Secchia to host Maryland in a three-game Big Ten series. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., with a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon start on Sunday.
Track & Field
It's a busy week for Michigan State track & field. The week begins with team members competing in the prestigious Penn Relays Thursday through Saturday in Philadelphia. In addition, the Spartans will compete at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale, Michigan.
