Fears Also Earns Second-Straight Big Ten Player of the Week
East Lansing, Mich. – Redshirt sophomore guard Jeremy Fears Jr. was one of 10 players selected to the Mid-Season Top-10 for the 2026 Bob Cousy Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday.
Fears was one of 10 points guards, selected to the Mid-Season Top-10 and is one of three players from the Big Ten Conference.
He has helped lead the Spartans to a 19-3 overall record, including a 9-2 record in the Big Ten Conference. MSU is currently ranked No. 10 in the country in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and the ESPN Coaches poll.
Fears leads Michigan State in scoring (14.9) and assists (8.9), while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 89.5 percent from the free throw lines. One of the team's four captains, Fears ranks second nationally in total assists, assists per game, No. 4 in assist/turnover ratio and is No. 36 nationally in free throw percentage.
In addition, Fears was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the second-straight. Fears averaged 30.0 points and 8.0 assists in a pair of games.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in both of the remaining rounds starting on Friday, February 6, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
In mid-March, the Mid-Season Top 10 list will be narrowed to just five, and in late March, five finalists will be presented to Cousy, Lieberman, and the Hall of Fame's selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Bob Cousy and Nancy Lieberman Awards are composed of top men's and women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
The winners of the 2026 Cousy and Lieberman Awards will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the four other members of the Men's and Women's Starting Five.
