Men’s Golf Begins Play in Fighting Irish Classic on Sunday

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team plays its penultimate event of the first half of the season this weekend at the Fighting Irish Classic, being held at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.

The two-day, 54-hole event will be played on the par-70, 7,023-yard course on the campus of Notre Dame.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

Michigan State opened the season with a tie for third place among nine teams at the New York Harbor Cup, firing an 11-under par 841 (283-280-278) … Senior McCoy Biagioli was the top finisher for MSU, finishing in eighth place at 5-under par 208 (68-77-73)
The Spartans followed that up with a tie for sixth place among 14 teams at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, carding a 3-under par 849 (279-292-278) … Junior Julian Menser tied for ninth place at 4-under par 209 (68-73-68).
Last week, MSU finished in 11th place among 16 teams at the Windon Memorial in the Chicago area … The Spartans were in second place after the first day of play but struggled in the final round, finishing in 11th at 11-over par 851 (281-279-291) … Biagioli led the team with a tie for 21st place at 1-over par 211 (69-68-74).
Biagioli leads the team with a 70.00 scoring average through nine rounds … He has a pair of top-20 finishes in three events.
Senior Lorenzo Pinili is second on the team with a 71.00 scoring average, his best finish a tied for 19th place at the New York Harbor Cup.
Menser, who has two-top 10 finishes in three events, is third on the team with a 71.11 scoring average.
Sophomore Luke Mueller and senior Lucas Acevedo have both been parts of the scoring lineup in the first three tournaments … Acevedo is fourth on the team with a 72.00 scoring average, while Mueller is fifth with a 73.11 scoring average.

The 14-team field includes Augusta University, Cal, Georgia Southern, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Louisville, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Purdue, Texas A&M, UCLA

MICHIGAN STATE AT THE FIGHTING IRISH CLASSIC

The Spartans have captured the Fighting Irish Classic tournament title three times in the 17-year history of the event.
MSU won the title in 2007, 2012 and then most recently in 2014.
Individually, two Spartans have claimed medalist honors with Ryan Brehm winning in 2007 and Randy Hutchinson in 2008.
Host Notre Dame has won the most Fighting Irish Classic titles, with five, while MSU is second with three tournament titles. MSU finished in 12th place in 2024.
