East Lansing, Mich. – Redshirt sophomore guard Jeremy Fears Jr. scored 17 points and handed out a career-best 17 assists as No. 10 Michigan State opened up a 23-point lead at halftime and beat Maryland, 91-48, at the Breslin Center on Saturday afternoon.

Fears scored a game-high 17 points and picked up his fifth double-double of the season with his personal-best 17 assists, tied for the second-most in a single game in program history with Gary Ganakas, who handed out 17 on Dec. 29, 1971 (the school record is 20 by Mateen Cleaves on March 4, 2000 against Michigan).

Four players scored in double figures for the Spartans, as senior center Carson Cooper added 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals, junior forward Coen Carr finished with 14 points and three rebounds and senior forward Jaxon Kohler chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.

Records
Michigan State, winners of six-straight games, improves to 18-2 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten Conference, while Maryland falls to 8-12 overall and 1-8 in league play.

Michigan State led from start to finish, opening a 23-point lead at halftime (46-23).
The Spartans opened a 20-point lead just over eight minutes into the game, taking a 24-4 lead on a 3-pointer from freshman forward Jordan Scott at the 11:54 mark.
MSU held the Terrapins scoreless for more than six minutes (6:03) during that stretch).
Maryland used a 14-6 run and pulled to within 10 points, 28-18, on a 3-pointer from Elijah Saunders with 7:14 to play in the half but the Spartans responded with an 11-0 run, taking a 39-18 lead on a layup from Scott at 3:45.
The Spartans held the Terps scoreless for 4:03 before a basket from Darius Adams made it 39-20, but the lead swelled to 23 points, 43-20, after back-to-back dunks from freshman forward Cam Ward and Cooper with 2:07 left.
Maryland scored the first two baskets of the second half to pull within 19 points, 46-27, and were down 20 points, 50-30, after a 3-pointer from Isaiah Watts before MSU used a 14-4 burst to take a 64-34 lead on a jumper from Fears with 14:25 to play.
Ward took a feed from Fears, his 15th assist of the game, to push the lead past 40 points, 80-39, with 7:31 to play.
A running jumper from graduate guard Denham Wojcik with 23 seconds to play gave MSU its biggest lead of the game, 43 points, at 91-48.
