Wrestling Defeated at Home Against No. 11 Illinois

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Michigan State wrestling fell to conference foe and No. 11-ranked Illinois in its second Big Ten dual meet of the season on Friday night, 31-12, at historic Jenison Field House.
The Spartans move to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten duals this season. MSU returns to the mat next Friday when they travel to take on Purdue at 5:00 p.m. from Holloway Gymnasium.
Redshirt freshman Darius Marines continued his strong start to the season at 157 pounds on Friday, picking up a fall over Ryan Bennett to get the Spartans on the scoreboard. Marines trailed through the first two periods but came back in the third period with a takedown before pinning Bennett 6:33 into the bout.

At 197 pounds, redshirt junior Kael Wisler picked up a sudden victory decision over Dylan Connell, 9-6. Wisler battled his way back into the dual, using a reversal and riding time late in the third period to force a sudden victory period. There, Wisler earned a takedown near the edge of the mat to secure the decision.

Redshirt junior Josh Terrill won his first dual match of the season on Friday defeating Ryan Boersma by a 1-0 decision. The bout remained scoreless into the third period until Terrill earned the escape.

Illinois won seven of ten bouts on the evening, scoring bonus point victories at 141, 149, 165, 174, and 184 pounds.
